Testimonial:
I received a letter this July from a customer in Groveton that reads as follows:
"I went to camp and checked out the job that had been done repairing the chimney. A job well done and very satisfied. I would recommend you to anyone. Continue your great work. Thank You."
Information regarding current codes:
What is the NFPA?
The National Fire Protection Association has a set of national codes that help keep homeowners and contractors in line and safe. Both the states of Maine and New Hampshire have now adopted this set of codes.
What are some common infractions to this code?
Having more than one appliance per flue.
Venting an appliance into an unlined chimney.
Having too large an appliance vent into a flue that's too small.
Running a wood stove into an uninsulated stainless steel liner.
Having your stove pipe or appliance too close to combustibles.
Having a wall pass through that in unsafe.
And much more.
What does this mean for you?
As most of us know through experience, insurance companies don't like to pay if they can find a way out of it. The NFPA although helping to keep you and I safe has created an opportunity for the insurance companies to get out of paying you if they find code infractions in the unfortunate event of a devestating chimney fire or carbon monoxide poisoning. This is why it's crucial for all of us to look at our chimney's with a critical eye and make sure we are meeting code.
Good news for you regarding your chimney and your insurance.
Insurance companies would rather pay a chimney professional to repair a chimney properly than pay for a new house in the case of a fire. So if you have ever had a chimney fire, your insurance company should be willing to pay to have an insulated stainless steel liner installed. To prove to the insurance company you had a fire you need a chimney professional to document the proof and the damage. All it costs you, the homeowner is your deductible. That's a small price to pay for peace of mind.
